Warm, dry and clear — one of the best windows for climbing Mount Kenya, with good visibility at higher altitudes and firmer trails.
Cool, dry and popular with international visitors. Wildlife viewing is excellent as animals gather around rivers and waterholes, and skies are generally clear for trekking and photography.
The rains bring their own rewards — greener landscapes, dramatic skies and quieter trails, though some routes can be muddier.
The wettest period, with lush green landscapes across Laikipia and around the lakes. Trekking is still possible but trails can be slippery — good for travellers who don't mind occasional showers in exchange for fewer crowds and lower prices.
Shorter, less intense rains, often with sunny mornings and afternoon showers. A good balance between greenery and accessibility, and a quieter time to visit popular spots.
Best in January–February or June–September, when trails are driest and visibility at altitude is at its best.
June–September is prime, as animals concentrate near water sources, making sightings around Isiolo, Samburu and Ol Pejeta more reliable.
Enjoyable year-round, though the dry seasons make boat trips and lakeside walks more comfortable underfoot.
The rainy seasons (March–May, October–December) bring the greenest landscapes and dramatic cloud formations, ideal for photography.
